"Mother’s Keeper’s Mission is to give every child the best start to life by offering support to the family. Mother’s Keepers believes in family-led support. We match each family with a trained volunteer who completes acts of service within the home to ‘lighten the load’ for the family so that they can better bond with their baby."
Mother’s Keepers will send one of the staff to do an initial assessment that includes postpartum depression screening and family safety analysis. They then match a volunteer with the family. In general, volunteers will visit 1-2 times/ week for 1-2 hours per visit for a period of up to 12 weeks. After that time, families graduate from the program and are followed-up with every few months for approximately a year.
Note that this is NOT a babysitting or childcare service. One parent must be present while the volunteer is there. Sample activities that volunteers can help with are fixing a meal, doing the laundry, light housework, running errands together, holding the baby while mom or dad showers, assist with applications, have a nice conversation.
This organization is also always looking for volunteers!
