The state of Michigan has several temporary assistance programs for residents in need. In general, services fall into the categories of healthcare coverage (including Medicaid), food assistance, childcare assistance (payment not placement), cash assistance, and emergency funds (for rent and utilities). For each program, there is a specific set of income and asset requirements typically quite low and stringent. For anyone interested in receiving help, they must complete an application online or on paper and speak with a case manager. The online application will inform residents if they are eligible for any of the programs. For those that fill out paper applications, a case manager will review the application and then speak with the applicant.
* For Adult Protective Services: "If you suspect abuse, neglect or exploitation, call 855-444-3911 any time day or night to make a report. Staff will investigate allegations within 24 hours after the report is received."
This location also houses Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) staff. "Michigan is home to approximately 1.3 million individuals with disabilities. Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) provides specialized employment and education-related services and training to assist teens and adults with disabilities in becoming employed or retaining employment. In addition, MRS partners and collaborates with the State Department of Education, local school systems, Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI), community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities to develop statewide school-to-work, postsecondary, and adult life programs to help students with disabilities succeed in secondary and postsecondary education and transition to employment. We work in partnership with individuals with disabilities to achieve independence and prepare for and obtain competitive employment, including exploring the possibilities of self-employment or owning a small business."
