The VA has several programs for Veterans across the country, and this is the Emmet County connection. Many of the programs have strict low-income qualifications unless the Vet. was disabled due to their service.

List of some of the services available to qualifying veterans:
- Compensation: monthly compensation if you are at least 10 percent disabled because of your military service
- Pension: you can receive a monthly pension if you are a wartime veteran with limited income and you are permanently and totally disabled, or at least 65 years old
- Health care: VA provides a number of health care services
- Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) is payable to certain survivors of: service members who died during active service; veterans who died from service-related disabilities; certain veterans who were being paid 100 percent VA disability compensation at the time of death
